Developing this talent is an important part of our company, and the role that our interns play in our company and projects is critical. Our interns work side-by-side with industry experts, gaining valuable hands-on experience in engineering, planning, design, analysis, production and more, and making a demonstrable impact on projects that are bettering our communities. We are proud that over the past five years, more than 650 of our interns have joined our Wolf Pack full-time.

Michael Baker International Rope Access Team Overview

Building on Michael Baker International’s nationally recognized bridge inspection expertise, our rope access bridge inspectors are continuing the legacy of providing safe, economical, innovative and efficient structure inspection services to our clients. The inspections we perform as a rope access team offer hands-on investigation in difficult-to-access areas, reduced impacts to the traveling public, improved safety and efficient inspection schedules.

Over the past 13 years, we’ve collectively performed more than 25,000 hours of inspections on rope and grown our rope access team from five to 25 team members – and counting!

Hernando de Soto Bridge Emergency Repair (Full Version)

On May 11, 2021, inspectors from Michael Baker were conducting a routine inspection of the upper portions of the Hernando de Soto Bridge, which carries Interstate 40 (I-40) across the Mississippi River between Arkansas and Tennessee, when they noticed a critical fracture in an area of the bridge below deck and outside of Michael Baker’s scope of work. With safety as the top priority, the inspectors contacted local authorities to shut down all traffic across and under the bridge. Working in collaboration with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Arkansas Department of Transportation, as well as contractor Kiewit Corporation, Michael Baker designed a three-phase repair that resulted in the bridge reopening to traffic in just 83 days.

The Michael Baker-Bridges to Prosperity team reflects on the meaningful construction of a vital 190-foot suspension footbridge in Nicaragua over two weeks in July 2016. The new bridge improves year-round mobility and access for residents in remote communities in Nicaragua.

We leveraged drone technology and rope access to safely inspect and analyze the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge, an eight-lane interstate that crosses the Ohio River and carries nearly 100,000 vehicles daily.

William H. Natcher Bridge - Owensboro, KY (Bridge Inspection)

Bridges to Prosperity 2016: A Typical Day in Nicaragua

2023 Michael Baker International Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) Build

Ten Michael Baker International employees from across the United States made the long journey to Rwanda to embark upon a two-week bridge build in partnership with B2P. On the ground in Rwanda, the team worked to construct a 246-foot suspended bridge over the Giciye River that would connect the villages of Jomba and Moringa.

2024 Michael Baker International Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) Build

Nine members of our Wolf Pack traveled to Rwanda, East Africa, in March to construct the Kabira 3 trail bridge and provide local community members with safe, year-round access to essential health care, education and other basic services. The completed bridge is now serving more than 4,300 residents in the Rutsiro District of Rwanda.
