Irvine, Calif. (July 31, 2014) - Michael Baker International’s Robert Kallenbaugh, P.E. and James McDonald, P.E. have been presented Lifetime Achievement Awards by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Orange County Chapter for demonstrating exemplary service and integrity in the engineering profession. Presented during the June 2014 Annual Awards Banquet at The Pacific Club in Newport Beach, California, these awards demonstrate the Company’s dedication to the communities, professional organizations and industries in which it serves.
Mr. Kallenbaugh and Mr. McDonald have led and served in various similar roles throughout their parallel careers. Both have advanced the capabilities of RBF Consulting (RBF), now a Company of Michael Baker International, and established RBF as the premier civil engineering firm in Orange County and the western United States. Kallenbaugh and McDonald obtained their Master’s Degrees from Stanford University in 1975 and 1976, respectively; worked at the County of Orange before transitioning to RBF; served as Co-President and Co-CEO of RBF.
“It is rare to find individuals in the industry that embody the ideals of distinction, character and philanthropy,” stated Ralph W. Guida IV, PLS, previous ACEC Orange County President. “Bob Kallenbaugh and Jim McDonald are exceptional industry leaders that have demonstrated these qualities through their stewardship of RBF. As a result of their service and leadership, they have ensured the continued respect of their peers.”
Mr. Kallenbaugh has primarily focused on complex land development and infrastructure projects throughout Southern California including the engineering for the Monarch Beach, Coto de Caza and Foothill Ranch master-planned communities in Orange County. Within the community, Kallenbaugh is the chair of the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona Dean’s Leadership Board for the College of Engineering, his alma mater, and recent inaugural Hall of Fame Inductee. Mr. Kallenbaugh and his wife, Chris, often participate in events to support Mission Community Hospital in Mission Viejo.
Mr. McDonald is responsible for the design and management of major, local, large-scale projects including the Interstate 5 and 405 Interchange in Irvine, the Eastern Transportation Corridor, and Newport Coast Drive. McDonald successfully oversaw the growth of the firm in RBF’s 14 satellite offices throughout California, Arizona, and Nevada. Mr. McDonald is a member of the Board of Directors at the Orange County Rescue Mission and is a private pilot, volunteering his time to fly cancer patients to treatment.
